Palm Lily,
Cordyline cannifolia
-
This shrub usually grows close to the ground,
but occasionally a spindly trunk grows up to 3 or 4 meters.
-
It has long leaves with a prominent mid-rib,
and venation that is almost parallel but runs at a slight outwards angle.
-
There is a raceme of small pink and slightly
tubular flowers with yellow-ended stamens. These are followed by orange to
bright red fruits.
-
This is a common shrub of the understorey of
tropical rainforest and wetter schlerophyll woodland in tropical and eastern
Australia (Hyland et al 1999).
